About Districts Institute of Education & Training (DIET)
Established 1987 (under NCTE guidelines) · All Districts of Rajasthan · education.rajasthan.gov.in
District Institutes of Education and Training (DIET) are government institutions established across all districts of Rajasthan under the directive of the National Policy on Education (NPE) 1986 and the subsequent Programme of Action (POA) 1992. These institutes were set up to strengthen and improve the quality of elementary education and teacher training at the grassroots level throughout the state.
Rajasthan has 33 DIET centres spread across every district of the state, serving as the backbone of primary and upper-primary education. The DIETs play a crucial role in training pre-service and in-service teachers, conducting academic research, developing teaching-learning materials, and providing resource support to elementary schools in their respective districts. They operate under the administrative control of the Department of Education, Government of Rajasthan.
DIET centres are particularly known for conducting the D.El.Ed (Diploma in Elementary Education), formerly known as BSTC, which is a two-year diploma programme that qualifies candidates to become primary school teachers. The DIETs also conduct class 5th and 8th board examinations and declare results for lakhs of students across the state. They involve approximately 5 lakh students across all 33 districts and are instrumental in implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 reforms at the district level.
