Tamil Nadu Fisheries University was founded in 2012 to improve the fisheries sector of Tamil Nadu State. Institute of Fisheries Technology, Nagapattinam was founded by Govt. of Tamil Nadu with a budget provision of Rs.34.08 crore. Subsequently, the Institute of Fisheries Technology has been renamed as College of Fisheries Engineering considering the growing importance and emerging needs of fisheries engineering of fisheries engineering sector. Objectives of college is to give Engineering inputs to the Fisheries sector, create the human resource in the field of Fisheries Engineering, undertake research programmes in the field of Fisheries Engineering.
