Candidates who successfully clear the preliminary screening will proceed to the Mains (Phase 2) examination.

Mains Exam Pattern

  • There are three separate papers in the main exam.
  • For RBI Grade B Officers in Gr B (DR)- General, candidates have to appear for papers I, II, and III.
  • Papers I & III are 50% Objective & 50 % descriptive, while Paper II is Descriptive only.
  • Each paper will be worth 100 marks.
  • The English paper is a descriptive test.

Ans. No, historically, the Reserve Bank of India does not release official answer keys for either stage. Examination results are published in a consolidated PDF format approximately 20-25 days after the completion of the exams.

Interview

Shortlisting for the final interview is determined by the aggregate score secured in Papers I, II, and III of the Phase 2 exam. The interview segment carries a weightage of 75 marks.

Final candidates for the interview round are selected based on the cumulative marks from Phase 2  (Paper 1 + Paper 2 + Paper 3).

A psychometric test is mandatory but qualifying in nature, conducted prior to the interview. The final merit list is compiled using a weightage ratio of 80:20 for the Mains exam and the Interview, respectively.

Candidates have the option to conduct their interviews in either English or Hindi.

RBI Grade B 2026 Salary

The starting basic salary for a Grade B Officer is Rs. 78,450, with a gross monthly package of Rs. 1,54,936 (subject to HRA variations).

The pay scale for the Grade B Manager role is Rs. 78,450 – 4,050(9) – 1,14,900 – EB – 4,050(2) – 1,23,000 – 4,650(4) – 1,41,600 (over 16 years), including regular annual increments.

Beyond the base salary, employees receive extensive benefits, including HRA or leased accommodation, Dearness Allowance, medical assistance, education allowances, low-interest loans, and comprehensive pension/gratuity schemes. Annual CTC can exceed Rs. 34+ lakhs in metro locations.

2 Year Probation Period After Selection

The role of an RBI Grade B Officer is highly rewarding and intellectually demanding. New recruits undergo a two-year probation period to assess their aptitude and performance. Key responsibilities include monetary policy implementation, financial regulation, and managing systemic stability.
