University of Kerala

The University of Kerala was founded as the University of Travancore in the erstwhile princely state of Travancore (now southern part of Kerala and some neighboring parts of the state of Tamilnadu) in 1937. During the 7 decades since the University of Kerala grew and shrunk physically and transformed itself in many ways. It is difficult to summarise what the Kerala University is in a brief space. 

The University of Travancore was established in 1937 by a promulgation of the Maharajah of Travancore, Sri Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma who was also the first Chancellor of the University. Sir C. P Ramaswamy Ayyar, the then Diwan (Prime minister) of the State was the first Vice-Chancellor. He was an eminent scholar and an able administrator. It is said the Government made an unsuccessful attempt to invite Albert Einstein to be the first Vice-Chancellor. The University was modeled after the best Universities of the United Kingdom, and even today retains some of these features. The affiliating system of the University, however, evolved to be different from the college system in British Universities. At present, the University has sixteen faculties and forty one departments of teaching and research in addition to study centres and other departments. 

Teaching, Research and Knowledge extension are the mandates of the Departments. They primarily focus on post-graduate (masters) programmes, MPhil programmes (1-year research degree) and doctoral research. In 2007, the University awarded over 100 PhDs. (University’s research activities are also going on in select affiliated colleges and other recognised research centers in and outside the state The University has also a number of study centres in specialized areas such as Nano-technology, Kerala Studies, Bioinformatics, Womens Studies, Learning Difficulties, Sree Narayana Studies, Gandhian Studies etc. The University has over 150 affiliated colleges.

University of Kerala Admission 2019

Kerala University UG Admission in these courses is based on the Choice Based Credit and Semester System for all programs except B.P.Ed and BFA. Admission to these courses is based on Online Central Allotment (OCA). The university offers undergraduate courses through the affiliated and constituent colleges. 

The basic eligibility criterion for admission to the undergraduate programs is that a student must have passed HSC examination in the same or related subjects. The admission will be based on the final merit list prepared by the university. The final rank list is prepared on the basis of marks secured by the student in the qualifying examination and the subject related to the course of choice of the student.

Online Exam Form of Kerala University

The Software for Web-enabled Exam Transactions (SWEET) developed by Kerala University’s computer centre allows Candidates to register online for various examinations.

According to computer centre director V. Ajayakumar, the online registration can be done in three ways. As per the first method, regular Candidates can directly feed registration data into the computer by logging on to the site http://kucc.keralauniversity.edu.

The college authorities too can register Candidates online. Both these methods provide teachers the facility to verify the details given to the computer. This verification can be done at three access levels—senior advisor, department head and principal. Then, in order to give the nod to an entire batch of Candidates for writing a particular examination all that the principal or department head has to do is to press a button.

In the case of Candidates with insufficient attendance percentage or Candidates against whom there are disciplinary processs, applications can be re-submitted online once the Candidate is allowed to write the examination.
