BRO Eligibility Criteria 2026

Review the BRO eligibility criteria below to verify your educational qualifications and age requirements for the upcoming selection cycle.

Nationality

  • A citizen of India, OR
  • A person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India, OR
  • A Gorkha of Indian domicile (must have a Permanent Residence Certificate)

Important Notice: Only male Indian citizens are eligible for these positions. Female candidates are not eligible to apply.

Education Qualification

  • 2-year Architecture/Draughtsmanship Certificate OR
  • 2-year NTC (Civil) + 1 year experience
Hindi Typist

  • Hindi typing speed of 30 wpm (9000 KDPH)
Store Keeper Technical Must-Have:
  • 10+2 from a recognised Board
  • Vehicle/Engineering storekeeping knowledge

Key Qualification Requirements:

  • 3 years of experience in store establishment.
  • Defence Class II Storeman course
Operator (Communication)
  • Matriculation (10th)
  • ITI Wireless/Radio certificate, OR Army Radio Trade certificate, OR Defence Class I Wireless course
OEM (OG)
  • Matriculation (10th)
  • Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) driving license OR
  • Dozer/Excavator license + 6 months experience OR
  • Defence Class II Operator Excavating Machinery course
Electrician
  • Matriculation (10th)
  • ITI Auto Electrician certificate + 1 year experience as Electrician OR Defence Electrician Class 2 course

NOTE: All mandatory qualifications and certificates must be acquired by the application closing date from a recognized institution. Candidates awaiting final exam results are ineligible.

EXEMPTION: PwBD, Ex-Servicemen (ESM), Ex-Agniveers, and departmental personnel are exempt from the Physical Efficiency Test (PET).

BRO GREF Selection Process 2026

The BRO 2026 selection process consists of the following stages:

  • Written Examination: Objective or subjective questions based on the specific trade and general knowledge.
  • Physical Efficiency Test (PET): Usually involves a 1-mile run within a specific time frame. (Qualifying nature).
  • Practical/Skill Test: Hands-on testing for trades like Electrician, OEM, and Typing.
  • Medical Examination: Conducted by BRO medical officers to ensure fitness for GREF standards.
