• UGC/INI: Pursuit of a doctoral degree at UGC-recognized universities/research institutionsor Institutes of National Importance in India.
• ICMR–AcSIR: Pursuit of a doctoral degree at any of the 27 ICMR Institutes/Centres withPh.D. registration under the AcSIR-ICMR Faculty of Medical Research.

DHR BRET Application Fees 2025

Age Limit

To be eligible for DHR BRET 2025, candidates must hold an M.Sc. or an equivalent postgraduate (PG) degree, such as M.Tech or M.Pharma, in a relevant scientific or medical field.

A minimum aggregate of 55% marks in the PG examination is required for General, EWS, and OBC candidates, while SC, ST, and PwBD candidates must secure at least 50% marks to qualify.

Candidates currently in the final year of their PG program (2025 session) may apply under the 'Result Awaited' (RA) category. These applicants must provide an attestation form (Appendix E) duly signed and stamped by the Head of their Department or Institution.

Provisional permission to appear for the test will be granted to RA candidates. However, they will only be considered for the JRF award upon successful submission of their final Master’s degree results, proving they have met the requisite percentage criteria.

DHR BRET Exam Pattern 2025

• The DHR BRET Exam will be conducted in an Online Computer Based Test (CBT) format.
• The exam will be conducted in the English language only.
• The exam will consist of 150 multiple-choice-questions (MCQs).
• 1 mark will be awarded for each correct answer.
• –0.25 mark will be deducted for each incorrect response.

DHR BRET Selection Process 2025

The DHR BRET 2025 selection process is designed to identify highly qualified candidates for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). Key aspects of this process include:

• Fellowships: A tentative total of 250 candidates will be selected for the fellowship, depending on the availability of funds and in line with the guidelines of the Department of Health Research (DHR).
• Merit List: The merit list will be prepared based solely on candidates’ performance in the DHR-BRET examination and declared according to the notified criteria.
• Discipline: Selected candidates can enrol for Ph.D. programmes only in fields related to biomedical or health research.
• Reservation: Candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC, PwBD, and EWS categories will receive reservation and relaxations as per the Government of India policy.
• Fellowship Award: The award of the fellowship will be confirmed only after the qualified candidates secure placement in a recognized Medical College, Hospital, University, National Laboratory, Institution of National Importance, or ICMR Institute/Centre.
