IBPS Clerk Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the IBPS Clerk / Customer Service Associate position, candidates must meet the following mandatory requirements set by the organization:

Nationality

Applicants must fulfill one of the nationality requirements prescribed by the Indian government.

A Citizen of India, or
A Subject of Nepal, or
A Subject of Bhutan, or
A Tibetan Refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
A Person of Indian Origin (PIO) who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma (Myanmar), Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire (Democratic Republic of the Congo), Ethiopia, or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university or an equivalent degree is required. Your final result must be declared before the application closing date, as your educational certificates will be verified during the final selection stage.

Computer Literacy (Essential for Clerical Posts)

Computer literacy is mandatory, verified by a certificate, diploma, or degree, or by having studied Computer/IT at the school or college level. Proficiency in the local language of the state or UT is also required. Ex-servicemen must hold the Army Special Certificate of Education or equivalent with at least 15 years of service.

Selection for the Clerk/Customer Service Associate position follows these structured stages:

Stage 1: Preliminary exam

The Preliminary examination is the first stage and is qualifying in nature. Candidates must clear both sectional and overall cut-offs to qualify for the Mains examination.

Stage 2: Mains exam

The revised Mains examination is the most critical stage, as the final merit list is determined exclusively by the marks obtained in this paper.

Stage 3: Local Language Test

Shortlisted candidates will undergo a Local Language Proficiency Test (LPT) to verify their ability to read, write, and speak the language of their chosen state. Candidates who have passed the local language as a subject in Class 10 or 12 may be eligible for an exemption as per IBPS guidelines.
