JTET Eligibility Criteria 2026

The JTET exam enforces distinct requirements for Paper I and Paper II to ensure that only highly qualified educators join the teaching profession. Eligibility is determined by a combination of age, academic credentials, and citizenship status. Here are the critical benchmarks for JTET 2026:

  • You must be an Indian citizen.
  • You must be at least 21 years old. There is no upper age limit.
  • You must have the right educational qualification for Paper I or Paper II.
  • Candidates who are still studying in the final year of a teacher training course can also apply.
  • General category candidates must have passed Class 10th or 12th from a recognised school in Jharkhand. They should also have knowledge of Jharkhand’s language, culture, and environment.
  • Reserved category candidates (SC/ST/OBC/PwD) are exempt from the Jharkhand school condition.
  • There is no limit on the number of attempts. You can appear as many times as you want.
  • No prior teaching experience is required. Both freshers and experienced candidates can apply.
  • Candidates with special education qualifications (like D.Ed Special Education) are also eligible. They must have a valid RCI registration number wherever applicable.
  • Candidates who applied in JTET 2024 and completed the full application process can reapply without paying the exam fee again for JTET 2026.

JTET Age Limit

JAC maintains an inclusive approach regarding age limits to encourage a broader pool of teaching aspirants. Below are the specific age-related stipulations for the examination:

  • Minimum Age: 21 years
  • Maximum Age: No upper age limit. Candidates of any age above 21 can apply as long as they meet the educational qualifications and other conditions.
  • Age Relaxation: Age relaxation is applicable as per government rules for reserved category candidates (SC/ST/OBC/PwD).
  • Special One-Time Relaxation: Candidates who crossed the normal age limit due to a delay in the JTET exam cycle will get a special one-time age relaxation for JTET 2026.
