The West Bengal government has unveiled a landmark recruitment initiative to fill 100,000 vacant posts across state departments. This major drive includes 50,000 education roles, 20,000 police positions, and a significant 33% reservation policy to empower female candidates.

In a major boost for job seekers, the West Bengal government has announced a massive recruitment drive to fill 1 lakh (100,000) vacant government positions. This initiative stands as one of the largest state-level employment drives in recent years, designed to strengthen administrative infrastructure and provide sustainable career opportunities across various government departments.

A central pillar of this recruitment campaign is the government's commitment to gender inclusivity. By mandating that 33% of all available vacancies be reserved for women, the state is taking a decisive step toward enhancing female participation in the workforce and promoting gender equity in public sector employment.

West Bengal Recruitment 2026

The government aims to streamline public services by filling 1 lakh long-pending vacancies across critical sectors. Sector-Wise Breakdown of the 1 Lakh Vacancies

The recruitment drive is strategically structured to address staffing shortages in high-priority sectors. The Education and Police Departments have been identified as the primary recipients of these new postings, ensuring that vital social and security services are adequately supported.

  • Education Sector (50,000 Posts): Out of the total 1 lakh vacancies, 50,000 posts have been allocated to the Education Department. These vacancies will be filled for teachers and non-teaching staff to strengthen the state’s education system.
  • Police Department (20,000 Posts): A total of 20,000 vacancies have been reserved for the Police Department. These posts will help improve law enforcement services and enhance public safety across the state.
  • Other Government Departments (30,000 Posts): The remaining 30,000 vacancies will be filled across different government departments and public service sectors to improve administration and service delivery.

Reservation and Age Relaxation Benefits

To ensure the selection process remains equitable and accessible, the government has introduced specific support measures. These include targeted reservations and age relaxation benefits, designed to provide a fair competitive landscape for a diverse group of applicants across the state.

  • 10% Quota for Agniveers: The government has reserved 10% of the vacancies for Agniveers wherever applicable. This step aims to provide employment opportunities to Agniveers after completing their service.
  • 5-Year Upper Age Limit Relaxation: The existing 5-year relaxation in the upper age limit for government job recruitment has been extended. This benefit will remain valid for the next 2 years, allowing more candidates to apply for government jobs and compete for these vacancies.

Benefits of the Recruitment Drive

This comprehensive recruitment campaign is expected to:

  • Create employment opportunities for thousands of candidates.
  • Strengthen the Police Department and Education Department.
  • Increase women’s participation in government services.
  • Provide opportunities for Agniveers after their service period.
  • Help eligible candidates through age relaxation benefits.
