According to the official notification, 11,403 vacancies are open across India’s states and union territories. These positions are available in 11 major Public Sector Banks, including Bank of Baroda, PNB, Canara Bank, Bank of Maharashtra, and UCO Bank. What’s New in IBPS Clerk Exam in 2026?

  • IBPS Clerk Apply Online 2026 has now started at www.ibps.in.
  • Prelims exam scheduled for 10 and 11 October 2026; Mains Exam will take place on 27 December 2026.
  • Recruitment covers the 2027–28 vacancy cycle for Customer Service Associate (CSA) posts (earlier called IBPS Clerk).
  • The total vacancy to be filled this year is 11, 403 (however, it may increase later).
  • Eligibility will be assessed as of 1 August 2026.
  • 5 questions have been added in the Quantitative Aptitude section of the Mains exam (now the total number of questions is 160 from the previous 155). Also, 5 more minutes have been added.

IBPS Clerk Eligibility Criteria

Below are the core eligibility requirements set by IBPS for the Clerk/Customer Service Associate position:

Nationality

To qualify, a candidate must meet the following criteria:

  • A Citizen of India, or
  • A Subject of Nepal, or
  • A Subject of Bhutan, or
  • A Tibetan Refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
  • A Person of Indian Origin (PIO) who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma (Myanmar), Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire (Democratic Republic of the Congo), Ethiopia, or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Candidates must be between the ages of 20 and 28 years as of the specified cutoff date.

Qualification

Applicants must possess a graduation degree from a recognized university. Proof of graduation must be available upon request during the document verification stage.

Computer Literacy (Essential for Clerical Posts)

Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in computer operations via a certificate, diploma, or degree, or have studied IT at the school/college level. Additionally, candidates are expected to be fluent in the official language of the state or UT they are applying for. Specific exemptions apply for qualified Ex-servicemen.

IBPS Clerk Selection Process

The selection process for the Clerk/Customer Service Associate role involves the following stages:

Stage 1: Preliminary exam

The Preliminary Examination is the initial qualifying stage. Candidates meeting the required sectional and overall cut-offs will advance to the Mains examination.

Stage 2: Mains exam

The Mains Examination, featuring a revised pattern, is the critical final assessment. The final merit list is determined exclusively by performance in this exam.

Stage 3: Local Language Test

Shortlisted candidates must clear the Local Language Proficiency Test (LPT) to demonstrate their ability to read, write, and speak the language of their chosen state. Candidates who studied the regional language in Class 10 or 12 may qualify for an exemption.
