JMI PhD Eligibility Criteria 2026

JMI PhD Selection Process

The selection process for JMI PhD 2026-27 is designed to be merit-based and transparent. Regardless of whether a candidate qualifies for entrance test exemptions, attendance at the interview is compulsory. Below is the step-by-step overview of the selection process.

  • Entrance Test: Conducted by the Controller of Examinations for non-exempted candidates. It consists of two papers – Paper I (Research Methodology) and Paper II (Subject-specific).
  • Minimum Qualifying Marks in Test: Candidates must score at least 50% marks in aggregate across both papers to qualify.
  • Exemption from Entrance Test: Candidates who have qualified UGC/CSIR-NET/JRF, AYUSH-NET, GATE, or equivalent national-level tests are exempted from the entrance test.
  • Interview: All shortlisted candidates (including exempted ones) must appear for the interview before CRC/DRC between 27-31 July 2026.
  • Research Proposal: Candidates must submit a research proposal to the respective department/centre by 22 July 2026.
  • Minimum Marks in Interview: Candidates must score at least 40% marks in the interview to qualify.
  • Final Merit List: Prepared based on combined performance in the entrance test and interview, subject to availability of supervisors and seats.
