Why SSC introduced?
The Commission manages recruitment for thousands of positions across various Government of India ministries and organizations. Historically, many vacancies remained vacant because selected candidates failed to attend document verification or declined the offer of appointment.
Due to the multi-stage nature of SSC exams, the commission does not operate a traditional waiting list similar to IBPS or SBI procedures. Consequently, these unfilled posts were previously carried forward to subsequent recruitment cycles.
To mitigate this, the SSC has implemented the Sliding Mechanism, which allows for the reallocation of unused posts within the original recruitment cycle.
How the SSC Sliding Scheme Will Work?
The process begins with the First Round of Tentative Allocation (FRTA), where posts are assigned based on candidate rank and original application preferences.
Following tentative allocation, shortlisted candidates undergo Identity Verification (IV) via Aadhaar authentication at SSC Regional Offices. At this stage, participants must choose between two status options: FIX or FLOAT.
What Are FIX and FLOAT Options under SSC Sliding?
These choices determine whether a candidate accepts their current allotted position or remains eligible for an upgrade to a higher-preference post.
FIX Option:
Selecting the FIX option indicates the candidate's satisfaction with their current allotment, effectively finalizing their post and waiving eligibility for further upgrades.
FLOAT Option:
Selecting the FLOAT option expresses a willingness to be considered for a higher-preference post should a vacancy emerge during the sliding round.
While the FLOAT option offers potential for an upgrade based on merit and vacancy availability, candidates must note that failing to accept an upgraded post may result in the forfeiture of both the new and previously allotted positions.
Identity Verification Window
SSC provides a limited 10-day window for candidates to report to Regional Director (RD) offices for necessary verification.
- Complete Aadhaar-based identity verification
- Select either the FIX or FLOAT option
- Candidates who fail to appear during this period will be treated as absent, and their candidature may not be considered further in the process.
How the SSC Sliding Round will Help Fill Vacancies?
Once identity verification is complete, the SSC will calculate remaining vacancies and conduct a single sliding round. Eligible candidates who opted for FLOAT will be reallocated posts based on merit and preference. A final revised post-allocation result will be issued upon completion.
